BIT was created by the Bannari Amman Group of Industries

The Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (BIT) is located in Chennai and is associated with the Anna University. BIT is ISO 9001:2000 certified for its quality education. A variety of its courses are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The institute is considered to be very prestigious and extremely competent in its education. 

History of BIT

BIT was created by the Bannari Amman Group of Industries

The Bannari Amman Institute of Technology was founded by the Bannari Amman Group, one of the largest Industrial Conglomerates in South Asia. The group serves a wide variety of services, including trading, manufacturing, etc. 

The institute’s affiliation with Anna University allows its courses to be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Most of the eligible courses are also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The institute is also recognized for the implementation of a 5S Workplace Management System. 

The institute came into being in 1996 and has excelled to become one of the top engineering institutes in the country. 

Mission and Vision of BIT

BIT’s mission is to provide a top-of-the-line infrastructure conducive to learning. It also seeks to engage the committed faculty members to infuse subject knowledge with the “latest teaching pedagogies”. 

The vision of the institute is to be a center of excellence, which provides a world-class education. In that, it seeks to turn individuals into empathetic and responsible citizens. 

Motto and Logo

The Bannari Amman Institute of technology logo is the letters GBA surrounded by the Greek Omega symbol. The motto says “Stay Ahead”. 

Academics

At the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, the courses offered at every level are dominated by engineering disciplines. However, there are design and communication courses as well for a minority of students. In total, the institute provides 19 undergraduate and 15 post graduate courses in Engineering and Management disciplines.

Sports 

There are various sports facilities inside the campus, including a sports complex that house synthetic tennis courts. There is also a playing field that can be used for different athletic sports like javelin, shotput, discus, and pole vaulting. The field may also be used for field hockey, volleyball, badminton, handball, etc. 

There are facilities for indoor games present within hostels as well. These can range from table tennis to carrom to badminton. Fully equipped gym facilities are available within hostels as well. 

Clubs and Societies

Dozens of clubs and societies built on several different themes are present in the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology. Here are just some of the most exciting clubs within the institute. 

Amateur Radio Club 

The main objective of this club is to interact with the International Space Station. 

Auto Zone 

Provides a forum to discuss the latest advancements in motor technology and automobile innovation. 

Automation Club 

The club focuses on the latest developments in the field of science and technology concerning automation. It also encourages students to apply those innovations within their personal lives. 

Biotech Club 

The club concerns itself with partnering up with companies to bridge the gap between the industry and academia.  

Catering-Care Club 

The club focuses on culinary arts and providing great food to the campus. 

Energy Conserve Club 

The club concerns itself with engineering solutions that conserve energy. 

Music Club 

The club recognizes musical talent.

Hostel Facilities and Campus

BIT’s campus meets a third of its energy demands through solar energy

The Bannari Amman Institute of Technology campus is rich in facilities. It includes a fully functioning sports complex and ground as well as furnished boys’ and girls’ hostel facilities. The campus has an on-premises cafeteria, a community radio, a science laboratory, etc. The campus is also partially powered by solar energy via solar panels fixed on the roofs of various buildings. 

Hostels 

The Boys’ hostel facilities are spread over 26.85 square meters. The facilities are spread over four buildings and house 2902 members housed in 915 rooms. The Girls’ hostels are spread over 7 blocks to house 2199 members in 639 rooms. 

Medical Center 

To cater to the students’ medical needs and emergencies, the medical center stays open 24 hours. 

Library

The on campus library is a 5-storied structure with built-in air conditioning. The facility is well-stacked and fully computerized. It contains over 89000 volumes and 400 national and international journals. Also housed within the walls are 274 NPTEL and 166 NITTTR video courses. The library is also linked to the British Council Library and the Chennai, DELNET, New Dehli, and INDEST Consortium. 

Laundry 

Laundry facilities are provided to students including a Washer and extractor and a gas dryer. There is also a steam ironing box and a steam ironing table. 

Parlour 

There is a beauty parlour within the campus for advanced hair styling, massages, waxing, detan, threating, glow facials, etc. 

Visitors Hall & Hut

These two facilities are specialized to let students meet their families. 

Sustainability Initiatives

The Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is currently home to several sustainability initiatives on campus. The facility generates 33% of its energy needs via renewable resources. 

Biogas 

There are two 120 cubic meter and 90 cubic meter biogas plants within the campus. The two make use of kitchen and human wastes to generate fuel. The plants have both been functioning since 2010 and have been used to deliver gas for cooking. 

Solar 

The campus is powered by 1300 KWp Solar Panels. On average, the panels generate 4500 units of power every day. 

Tree Census 

A deliberate effort is made at the university to increase the green area. It is currently home to over 14,000 flowering trees, herbs, and shrubs over 20 acres. The campus houses over 4250 native tree species. 

Bio-composting 

5-6 tonnes of biomanures are prepared every single month for use in the community gardens. The composting is done from wastes collected in the campus including from the kitchen and plant leaves. There is also a 400 square meter area polyhouse that is fully ventilated for the cultivation of vegetables. 

Kitchen Garden

A garden that grows beans and vegetables is spread over 10 acres of land within the campus. It contributes 7-9 tonnes of produce to the hostel mess each month. The garden is also used for several demonstrations to the B.E. Agriculture Engineering students including irrigation techniques and fertigation techniques.

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology Placement 

The BIT placement program is extensively linked with industry. Students’ skills are molded through training sessions BIT has been recognized for achieving full placement for 3 consecutive years. 

The Recruiters at BIT feature companies from TATA consultancy services, Infosys, Flipkart, and JUSPAY to Amazon, PayPal, and IBM. Other companies like Accenture, Bosch, Vulam and Zoho also feature. The campus placement program has a success percentage of 97%.
